[1]. After receiving portraits of themselves, Charles Phelps and Anna Sinton Taft commissioned the artist to paint posthumous portraits of Anna’s mother and father. Davison, Jane Taft Ingalls willed the portrait to her granddaughter, Jane Davison, because they shared the name “Jane” with the sitter, Jane Ellison Sinton.
